Testing a new style

It's Gomon and Draco that have to suffer. I kinda got the idea for this a long time ago but never went through with it till last night...when I couldn't sleep at all. Yep, sleeplessness results. It seems a bit squished together because the only scanner I could find was a small one. The next result of this will be better.

Some Food For thought

Questions for Guest Speakers

If you have any particular questions for guest speakers you would like answered, submit them here! Be it tutorials, advice, what to expect or general questions. Here are a few that were discussed during the last club meeting. Remember, this club is about making comics, not reading comics. Keep questions focused on the craft.

1. Source for new ideas, how to keep the script flowing.
2. What writers look for in an artist.
3. What should artists expect in collaboration with a writer
4. What are some mistakes beginning artists make when staring out.
5. Process of promotion

Potentially think of themes for each guest speaker to concentrate on for particular focus.

Kinda quiet..

Soo..whats happening this quarter?

Next quarter's schedule

We talked briefly about what each meeting should encompass to attract more people, especially come next quarter. I think making a rough mock up 'schedule' would be beneficial and a goal to shoot for. Kirshna brought up a good point that the week of Midterms and Finals are probably not going to be too eventful for obvious reasons - are we going to skip meetings those weeks or keep it 'light'?

Some ideas are..

Week 1 - Introductions
Week 2 - SequaClub Comic Book Discussion (Deadline Week 9)
Week 3 - Guest Speaker
Week 4 - Quick Draw Contest 1
Week 5 - Tutorials 1
Week 6 - Break? (Midterms)Or Student work show and tell/critique
Week 7 - Check up on comic book pages
Week 8 - Quick Draw Contest 2 OR Tutorials
Week 9 - Comic pages due
Week 10- Finals, no meeting

Guest Speakers Self explanatory.
Tutorials - I love doing tutorials, so I wouldn't mind helping with this part. Could be at student request (such as 'i have trouble with dynamic angles' or 'i suck at coloring, help!')
SequaClub'Quick Draw' contest (Random theme challenge - 30/45 minutes drawing, remainder of time critiquing) Could even offer small, silly prizes with this. Encourages involvement and practice that everyone needs.

image_flyer_revision

This thumbnail sketch is inspired by Zero's original layout. Just added more depth and a canted angle to it, for some "pizazz". Combined with the info layout, that Steph did, as well as the color scheme, throw in a few old school printing dots and I'm thinking it could be a cool flyer. What do you think guys and gals?

Poster idea

My idea for the club poster. I like the little AiSC logo for whatever reason, even if its silly. Template is nice and organized so we can replace the picture and text/colors whenever. The image I put in is just something I drew for now to show off a 'complete' looking image for the poster. Not necessarily the one we'l put up.

the idea of the flyer

Something I came up with quickly to
show what I had in mind
for the poster.

The biggest concern

My biggest concern is that I cant get the book trough if not enough people
participate into the dead lines then we wont have a book. I know that
school assignments are not helping but we cant keep making dead lines
and then not meeting them.

we also need a flier for the club so we can attract a bigger crowd to the club
and enlarge the number of people and skills.

Lets please make an effort to get this book out and the name of the club
as well

Progress Stuff

Yea..didn't quite make the deadline, but even so, I'm still gonna keep working on this thing until it's done! I'm very curious to see any of the finished products from the people who were probably a lot more studious about getting it done in time then I was.
I finished coloring one of the panels here.

Progress

Been really trying to get this thing finished before thursday. Gonna try planning my days accordingly so I can get this inked, hopefully colored, as well as homework done of course for this week. Here's two of the pages, minus some cleanups and a few things I'm going to be adding.
Side note: six shooters are a pain to draw.
Here are the links to the pages.

mock_up

What we could do is draw our characters in the selected bars, just a close up of their eyes and whatever else may be around the head area. That way we can also have the different art styles show through(along with some storytelling)and it will keep the potential readers in mystery until they open up the book.

OR so maybe something like this. We can all draw our characters, but we can just use the negative space for each character in the designated rectangle. Now whether or not the rectangles are all red or different colors, whatever we all decide. What's the title of the book going to be? is it the group name or is it "book title" brought to you by "group name"?

let me know

Cover Idea

I was thinking about the cover, and I figured we could each draw a character or something from our comics and then put them together. That way the cover can accurately depict what our readers can expect (styles, story etc) and we don't have to rely on one person to take care of the whole task. Maybe we can have every have their drawings done by next week, and whoever doesn't have theirs done, will just be left out of the cover, but since (hopefully) most of us will have them done, there would still be material for the cover. Welp, just a suggestion anyway, guess we'll talk more about it during the meeting...

A quick coloring tutorial.

This is an old coloring tutorial I made two years ago. I hate the picture but the technique I use is still more or less the same. Thought i'd share. Practice practice practice!

And also, this is for Painter 7. Sorry Photoshop doods. I'll try making a more updated coloring tutorial sometime.

More Pages

I had these pages done the day of the last club meeting...so I hadn't gotten the feedback til after I had these finished...so yeah, they're terrible. I'm not too inclined to post them, but since there's a meeting today, I guess I'll put them up anyway. Seriously considering just starting the whole thing over...

There's only two pages left...but if I start over...muh *frustration*

Working Class Superhero

I'm totally ganking this and coming out with the next theme for this week! I got the idea from another blog and thought it would be fun to try. The working class super hero! It can go two ways. Make a mundane, every day sort of worker in to a 'super hero' image, or make a super hero (well known or your own creation) doing mundane things with his powers ( such as Cyclops, using his eye beams to pop popcorn).

Have fun!
(Examples)
- Truck driver
- Construction worker
- Bartender
- Cleaning woman
- Secretary
- Garbage man
- Window washer
- Janitor

my_mec

coloring ain't my thing.....plus....got some other stuff I gotta do. This was fun...except for it being the whole Mech thing! Gah! Robot Show is going to be a pain!

Weekly Challenge

A robot thingy for this weeks challenge, came out of a doodle from class which you can see below. The design itself isn't entirely imaginative but I gave it a shot anyway. Its based off the African fetish figures and reliquaries.

M-160

I made a concept of this a long time ago but I never digitized it.
Here is my Mech, M-160. I intensified the shadows from before.
Comment pleas

Mecha..Kinda

I hope I uploaded that right I kinda forgot how to do it.

Well this is my mecha. I did it partly during class. IT's not done...but I thought I'd upload it before I lost it or messed it up. I know it's pretty rough. I like everything BUT the arm with the finger guns....I wanted it to be out of proportion but
it just seems really really off.

Erh thats about it then....

Inactivity

I Think that is fine, and I hae been recoreving from a little meltdown, but im back.

I agree with having a weekly theme, and I will kick it off,

Practice drawing a Mech every one! and add color...I hope
that everyone is enjoying the break.

Lets produce again!

More activity?

After popping by the blog more often then is healthy, I'm noticing an unhealthy lack of activity! Might I suggest posting the club minutes (especially for people who can't attend the meetings) whenever they happen, or having little weekly drawing themes? Might encourage some more involvement. :)

A practice panel.

So my computer exploded, and took with it a lot of files, unfortunately. Back to square one. But, here's a practice panel..mostly trying to work on the tree's. Yay tutorials.

Finished

Well, I had the 4th and 5th pages done before the last meeting but I just recently finished the 6th since I didn't need to rush anymore.
Well, since there's a new deadline, guess I'll just do another - w-

A panel.

I haven't actually been to any of the meetings yet due to time constraints with work and other classes, but I've been following the going-ons here! I may or may not be working on a comic, too. Again, all dependant on time, though I am at least coloring for someone else's comic. This is a panel from my potential one - which will be an entirely 'silent' comic. A story told only by visuals.

It will be very heavy on monochromatic hues, which will change entirely in panels depending on the changing mood. Very 'storybook' ish, ala Lotte Reigner (especially the silhouette aspect). Thoughts?

Do we meet today? and where? when?

Another Page

Struggling to finish before thursday *coughs up blood* Finally got the 3rd page finished...

Page 3

Still not sure about a title yet, but I think it might be Beautifully Grotesque

Also, still need to know if we need to make a cover page for our comics or not...

Hey guys, im pretty much finished(writing is last thing left which is tomorrow)

Friday, January 22, 2010

BTW

I hope everyone got the email for the share folder in dropbox.com, this
will facilitate the way we make the anthology and other resources.

take care Gang

The meeting, when is it convenient

Hey Gang, I was wondering if Thursday is a better day to meet in the animation lab
instead of monday, that way there is an extension for those who need it and is @ the end of the week rather than "BAM" the first of the week. let me know guys.

So...

So, I planned on working on my comic during the break while in Jacksonville, brought everything I needed for it, left ALL the pages in my apt in Tampa -A- Anyway, I'll be in overdrive working on it this week. Also, for some reason I haven't been able to access the megacon site until...well, right now, and I was wondering if we've secured a table or not cause apparently they're almost out of them < . <
Okie, well, see everyone at the next meeting~
